Just got the sticker shock from BMW do a clutch job At 160,000 miles and a singing throwout bearing I figure it's time. Have done GM and Toyota clutchs before and the Bentley manual seems fairly straight forward so this just became a DIY job. Does anyone know of any resources better than Bentley for job instructions. Or any tricks, tips or gotchas? Thanks Bud Anderson
There is no better resource than the Bentley manual. Just make sure you have a long extension for your breaker bar (3 foot 1/2" to 3/8" is helpful and is often called a bellhousing extension), a good quality swivel for that, and the correct E Torx sockets and you should be fine.
I also found Pelican parts to be a big help. Big pictures helped me a lot. This was my first clutch job. http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/E36-Clutch_Replace/E36-Clutch_Replace.htm
