The button that you push in to release the e-brake has failed . The e-brake still works (ie the car will stop) but only if the handle is kept up, meaning no clicking/ticking sound when the handle is lifted. The button, along with a wire that has a spring now comes out of the handle unit. I removed the leather boot and I see lots of stuff, only I don't know what I am looking at. The other end of the wire has a black plastic hook that is broken. I believe I need a new button/wire/hook but how do I go about installing it? The Bentley is silent on this.
Looks like the REALOEM picture is silent also. Does not even show the hook. On older 5's the hook often can get turned so it will not hold. You should be able to start pulling things apart and figure it out, Here's the old version...hook is #6 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=3995&mospid=47163&btnr=34_0320&hg=34&fg=30
