I brought my 2002 E39 525i sport touring in for a vibration. My mechanic said it was the internal boot at rear of driveshaft had deteriorated and the cv joint was dry. He indicated that i might need a whole new driveshaft since the boot is not sold separately. Any info would be great. I included a picot the area in question.
I wouldn't know if some sort of easier or less-expensive fix/repair is possible, you'd have to try some internet searching on that. For shopping replacements lookup the part number on realoem.com and use that for searching. If nothing else, that particular issue shouldn't presumably arise again for another 20 years. If the driveshaft has to come out of course any other old rubber in there, giubo's and the like, can be addressed at the same time.
