I have a 1994 325is with 160k miles, there are numerous oil leaks which my mechanic has indicated a reseal is needed and estimated the cost to be $10k. Anyone know if this is reasonable or if there is a less expensive option?
Other than valve cover, timing chain cover, oil filter housing and maybe oil pan and possibly rear seal, what else is he replacing? The motor?
If it's front n rear main seals (basically crankshaft seals/gaskets), plus everything Steven mentions, that is a lot of labor. Trans has to come out, which means exhaust system & heat shields have to come out. On the front side, radiator. etc, presumably; yes sounds like a big number, should be truly dependent on amount of hours, so maybe go over that with him for more specificity to better see what he's estimating.
He is replacing all gaskets/seals, good point on amount of labor and pulling engine. Thanks for the responses and info. Regards
