I have a 2000 BMW 540i 6-speed that sounds like the engine is churning when I start it. I have 178,000+ miles but I love driving this car!! I had one European Auto repair shop inform that he believes it is my timing chain and needs to be replaced. I also believe that my car’s timing chain ‘may’ just need to be tightened rather than needing replaced (hoping). I was going to take my car to another auto shop 4.5 miles from my Jacksonville, FL home but my battery died. I plan to take it out, recharge my battery and seek and second opinion.

Question: Does this sound like I am describing a possible timing chain replacement need or what?
    Thanks,
