If I replace my existing 6 speed automatic transmission from a 2008 535i with a used one from another e60, does that require reprogramming my ECU? If so, can this performed with with INPA or is this a dealer only job? Thanks!
The transmission has the module inside of the valve body. They are vin coded to the vehicle, so they can not be switched from vehicle to vehicle. I know there are aftermarket software that can change the vin number to match in the Egs (trans module) not sure anymore of what software can do this. Bmw dealers are not able to do this and bmw made a bulletin about swapping transmissions. Other option would be to switch valve bodies from your car to the new trans.
