My AC is not very efficent especially when idling? The front fan is also not going on with the AC. Any suggestions as where to start to correct. Thank you in advance. Kurt.

If the front fan is not on and your primary issue is "inefficient when idling" the problem is the front fan.

Lots of things control the fan, start with the fan relay. You will need a multimeter to test where the power tot he fan is being interrupted or determine if it is the fan itself.

Aux (electric) fan should go on when you hit the snowflake button. If it doesn't, or your A/C compressor is chattering you should not use the A/C or drive in hot weather until you get it fixed.

    Cause could be:

    1) Fuse
    2) Relay
    3) Fan Motor

    In order of increasing expense.

Thank you. The car just left me stranded from a bad alternator or voltage regulator? I am hoping that this may be my problem. Keep you posted. Kurt.

Under DYI there is a topic for radiator fans A/C for E30 and includes the E36 318 six blade fan.
Compliments to Doug on his articles and great write ups.
