Returning member in Michigan. I've a 1975 2002 with 320i alpina style wheels and am having a time finding performance tires that fit. Looking for 205/60/13. Any leads? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums & back to the club! Best I could find, you're almost completely s.o.l. on that size, except for the Hoosier & Toryo track tires shown on Tirerack.com, and a Vredstein with an old-school tread pattern that looks pretty mediocre to me - not exactly Yokohama A008 street-fun lookin', if you ask me. Dry performance might be kinda-sorta-acceptable, relatively speaking, but I wouldn't expect much (how's your oversteer-skid recovery skills doin'?), I'd be worried of sketchy wet grip & water dispersion in wet.

Looks like a few years ago, a few makers had the size in more streetable options - Cooper & Federal had 205/60's, Sumitomo a 215/50, Continental a 195/45 - but, those have all been dropped, not much out there as a street tire in any 13's, much less anything remotely definable as a performance or high performance street tire, best I could find.

If you really want a performance tire, kinda looks like the only thing streetable is the Hoosier radial wets, which have enough tread depth to handle some water, but as soft as they are, are late-spring, summer, maybe early-fall only, definitely not when it's cold or headed towards freezing, and so soft, you won't get much mileage - but, you will get lots of grip in the right seasons.

The Toyo R88's, same story, but as you see from the pics of the tread design, less water dispersion, so bigger potential for hydroplaning, obviously a problem for street driving if you get caught in the rain, particularly on the highway.

There ARE 13" tires out there, there's a Cooper Trendsetter SE, 185/70-13, UTQG: 440 A B, Tire Rack shows a couple Kumhos in 185/70-13, a Toyo Extensa A/S that the Toyo website itself rates at 2.5 of 5 for dry handling (eek!) -. given that, I'd probably go for one of the Kumhos, and still not expect much.

Some other lesser and brands listed here also, just fyi - I'd only consider the ones mentioned abovethough -

Obviously, 13" options are at two extremes - mediocre crappy street tires, and full-blown r-comps; To get some variety of high-performance summer or all-season on the car, looks like larger wheels would be necessary, with 15's probably being the best choice. Didn't look at 14's, but I suspect those are headed the way of 13's, although there's probably better 14" options than where things are with 13's now. 14" wheels probably only nominally cheaper than 15" options, but probably nowhere near the tire-sizing options.

Having not tried to search any out, no specific sources in particular - you could try some different searches on searchtempest.com (searches craigslist ads), also Ebay, Tirerack.com - also search bmw2002faq.com, or sign up there and see if anyone has suggestions... or other forums - bimmerfest.com, bimmerforums.com, maybe mye28.com

One thread googled up on bmw2002faq -
