A recent trip to the dealer indicated that both Catalytic converters on 2006 330CI are clogged. Is the best remedy to replace? If so, any recommendations on replacements? In doing some reading, it appears the clogging is caused by a rich fuel mix. Any ideas on how to remedy the situation?
Are they clogged or melted? Most the time what kills a cat is from misfires having unburnt fuel go into the cat and causing them to melt thus clogging them. Lots of stuff can cause misfires/ rich issues such as plugs, coils would be the most common, other are oil seperator, leaking injectors. Cats will have to be replaced and are not cheap.
Lots of place you can get them I recommend the ones below. http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp http://www.turnermotorsport.com/BMW-E46/c-47-bmw-catalytic-converters.aspx
