    Both vehicles E39 -Are there any issues in replacing a 1997 528 engine with a 1998 528?

    They're the same engine. I don't think there would be much of an issue...

    Thanks - my concern was with the wiring harness and any major difference between the years - They are close and I am hoping there weren't any major changes - thanks again.

    The swap should be identical. The 1999 and the 2000 528i engines (M52TU) are different from the 1997-1998 engines (M52).
