If I have a shop other then BMW Dealer install a new battery and do the registry. Will this
cause any problems with the used car warranty?

That depends on what your warranty states about who can work on your vehicle. Most I have seen don't care where you take the vehicle but some do.

Its a BMW CPO warranty and the guy from this shop was BMW Tech for 30 years and now has his own shop. If I pick up a battery for him to install any suggestions on what brand?. The reason I'm changing out the battery is I had to reset the clock and the date was off by one day,and repair symbol came up,then went away. and the battery is about 5 years old.I was told that when you get odd problems like this, that it's usually the battery starting to go.

It depends what type of battery you have. A lead acid or AGM (absorbent glass matt) battery. And also the newer vehicles will require you register the new battery to the vehicle.
