    Hey fellow Beemerphiles:

I need to replace the brake pads on my above car.. There a huge price descrepency between buying aftermarket and thru the dealership.

I've heard + and minuses on both sides.. what;s the REAL story? Which pads should I get? It's a wagon so I'm not taking it to the track :).... and I would like to decrease the brake dust... but CANNOT live with squeeky brakes..

    Thanks for your input.

Disc brakes squeal. You can apply shims and some anti-squeal goop to the backing plates I suppose.
Don't know how long that will last.

Don't know what to use on a 5 touring.
On my hatchback I've used Ultimate Axxis with good results.
Still some dust but easily cleaned.

I've been doing a bit of research on brakes to get ready for my first pad/rotor replacement and came across this page at TMS:

    http://www.turnermotorsport.com/t-buying-guide-brake-pads.aspx

I'm sure there are lots of other resources out there, but I thought this was a nice summary of pros & cons of various pads. (They also have lots of other reading material on all things brake if you're interested.)

Glad to see my favorites - Metal Masters - are still recommended. I've been using them longer than Turner's been selling 'em.

I felt the same way. I always liked them on my 95 325 and looks like they're going to go on the coupe as well.

I've used Jurid and Mintex. Never had a problem with either one.

Thanks that was a useful site. I have already placed an order for the ZImmerman Rotors with Akebono pads.. I'll let you know how they are... in about 2 weeks :)

Only thing you need to watch out on rotors are to be sure they are balanced.
I bought either Balo or Zimmerman and hated them. Doesn't really matter who. Turned out they weren't balanced.
