HI Y'ALL...My Name is Dr Ron, I just purchased a 2009 335i convertible -> Love it! But, 2 problems: Maybe you can help. My iPhone won't play when plugged into the usb port! Neither as an iPod nor internet radio....the folks at Leith BMW in Raleigh say "Sorry, we can't help, call Apple" and the folks at Apple say "Sorry, we can't help, call BMW"! HELP me please...isn't there a software patch for my Link5 radio to make it work? Second, is it only supposed to get around 24-25 mpg on the hiway in cruise control at 75 mph? -Thanks All, hope to hear from you soon! Dr Ron
Welcome to the asylum, Mister Doctor! Does "Beemerdude" imply that you ride as well? (See, Beemer is a motorcycle term, coined back when Beezer referred to the British BSA, while Bimmer is the socially acceptable familiarity for a BMW car; however, certain demented Los Angelenos, including journalists and novelists, use Beamer, just to see if they can cause a reaction, the insolent stronzi.) Where was I? Oh, never mind; I think one of the electronics or sound-system forums may prove helpful.
Ohhh...Beemer Dude...I thought the title of the thread was BEERMEDUDE. I was gonna say "Beer me TOO!"...
Anybody know what a "Y" cable is regarding it's use for iPhone connectivity in a 2009 335i convertible? Where can I obtain one? Do I need to get my Radio, ( Link 5 ), a software update to play music from the USB port using this Y cable....Help Please. -Dr Ron (BEEMERDUDE)
Hey Dr Ron I get this issue quite a bit but I am a little confused on your situation. Are you using a Y cable in you vehicle now or are you trying to use the apple cable. Also what type of Iphone do you have Iphone 4 , 4s, 3s? Because there are two different types of Y cables sold one for iphones and one for ipod system since they use different charging ports. You can get these Y cables at any BMW dealer they run about 80 dollars. Hope this helps.
Forgive me, but I was under the impression that "Beemer" was for BMW motorcycles, and "Bimmer" (still pronounced "beamer") was for the automobiles. Just saying.
The only folks that are going to make any differentiation at all are _some_ in-the-know BMWCCA members, and BMW motorcycle owners that have gotten some exposure to BMW MOA members/club, or long-time BMW motorcyclists. For 99% of the population that pay any attention at all to car marques, all BMW's, of any-number-of-wheels variety, if they're going to opt for descriptive slang at all, are 'beemers'. And, fwiw, anyone I've ever heard who's into BMW's enough to call them a bimmer pronounces it such that it rhymes with dimmer, glimmer, primmer, simmer, etc.
