At full pool, the shoreline of Lake Powell is longer than that of the Pacific Coast from Seattle to San Diego. You want to learn anything useful, that costs extra. :)

    Welcome aboard!

You can display or add pictures in a post in a couple of ways -

One is to use the bbcode "image" tags, thusly:

    [noparse][IMG][/noparse]

Note that in bbcode, the first tag does not use a slash, and the closing tag does use a "/". To use the img tags, you need to have placeholder on the web for your pics that allow them to be linked to, and you'll also need their correct url & filename (the above is obviously just an example). See: http://bmwcca.org/forum/misc.php?do=bbcode & http://bmwcca.org/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_vb_special_codes

To keep the message threads from becoming unwieldy and slow to load, the use of image tags is appropriate for an image or two, and pictures that are not giant sized - 640x480 is good, and maybe a bit larger, but I'd venture to say 1024x768 might be too big to be convenient for many users of the forums.

Another option is to add pics as attachments to the post - click the usual "quick reply" button, then at the bottom of the reply text box area, click "Go Advanced", and scrolling down, you'll see options for attaching certain types of files, including the most common image file types.

Another option I suppose would be posting pictures in the gallery section of the website, and referring us there, or to a 3rd-party photo website.

Yes, I use smug mug, but was the 1st thing I noticed trying to put a signature picture up the use of only small dot pictures. I see the manage attachments, don't think I will be able to size my pictures down that small. Maybe smugmug can. Let me see.

    Can everyone see this?

I'm reasonably sure the idea behind not having large-sized signature pics is to keep thread browsing and page loading relatively speedy and efficacious. Obviously, everyone's use & perusal of the forums is less enjoyable if we'd all have to wait for large graphics files to download and display.

Can't tell you anything about a Mac, but if you have windows paint, you can use the "Stretch/Skew" under the "Image" tab to resize your image, and saving to something like .jpg can reduce file size. You can also cut & crop. If that doesn't reduce it enough to load via the website's options, then you'll have to use img tags.
