I bought my car with 15k on it. When I purchased it, the computer read that I had about 2k to go until it needed service. After about two weeks of ownership I had an low oil warning light come on. I immediately added a half quart of the recommended synthetic and then checked the level with the computer. All was well, the oil level read fine and the light did not come back on. I called the service rep. and informed him about what had occured. He had me bring it in for the service, maybe 1.5k earlier then computer called for. I was told that everything was fine, no issues. I was suprised that after the service the computer read that the next recommended service was 17k away. It's since gone down to 12k (moving down faster than actual miles driven). So my question is, is this enough? Should I be doing something more than the recommended service? Is the computer accurate enough to judge the needed service? I have owned several cars from new/mostly new until 100k+ and I feel that the regular service that I had done, in some way contributed to their longetivity and lack of major issues. So I'm a little nervous about the frequency of the BMW maintenance. Are there any recommendations on extra service that needs to be done outside of the schedule or should I leave it to the computer?
Despite what my computer says, I change the oil on my 330 every 7500 miles (with synthetic of course). Also, lifetime fill on the transmission (per BMW) really translates to lifetime under BMW's warranty after which point they could not care less if your transmission self destructs, which I'm sure they would love. I'll be replacing my transmission fluid at 60K miles. It's no secret that since BMW started "paying" for service, the service intervals have become a little ridiculous. If you plan to keep the car for a while, e-mail Mike Miller and ask for his service schedule.
I was thinking about going to the Sebring 12 HR race this year. Have you been to this race? Any insight on when to come and where to stay, etc. Todd
I haven't attended but it's out of pure laziness as Sebring is less than 2 hours from my house. I have every intention of going back to the Legends of Motorsports event again next December and want to spend the night at the Sheraton next to the track. They have a nice spa (for the wife) and you're literally next to the track so you can even watch some track action from your room or down by the pool.
