Which e36 Vanos Units are Compatable?

    My M3 is going to eat itself cause the vanos is mechanically stuck. I need to do something but im broke like usual so the Dr.Vanos unit will have to wait. Im sitting on a few engines but I dont think any of them will work. Is my car a dual vanos unit? Or a single?

    I know the M50s are both single vanos, what is an S52.

    S52US uses the same VANOS as M50TU (the one with the Vanos) and M52. The M52TU is dual Vanos, so you can't use that.

    Are you serious?!?!?!?! Im about to fix my car today then. Is there anywhere I can find verification on this? I always thought all OBDII engines went dual vanos. Cool, cool.

    Does anyone know where I can source the special tools for purchase.

    Actually, I lied. I looked it up and it looks like there were minor changes in the VANOS from the M50TU/S50 to the M52/S52. The M52/S52 in the US do have single VANOS, though. Here is the cross reference list:
