The "Expert" classifications in the concours is new to me.

What it the difference in Expert Concours Original and just plain ol' Concours Original?

    Thanks

I don't get it either. The rules do not define expert, though does state that the top 5 entries will receive trophies and also will be eligible for the "Originality" award.

Maybe this is why they have now having a Concours check-in on Monday. What is the purpose of this check-in?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Just speculation here (since I'm autocross chair; not concours), but I know that a lot of folks who have shown their cars over and over at Oktoberfests have become "the pros from Dover" and they tend to take home the majority of the top awards. This may take them out of the mix and put them into their own class so the other awards can go to more different people. I know some autocross organizations have done the same thing to separate out the perennial winners of their classes.
More speculation: this may just be to determine how much Osthoff lawn space everyone gets. It could also allow the organizers to place similar cars together in a coherent plan.

The check-in is to check the judging sheet and will speed up staging.

Where do you see the Monday Check in? It looks like the judges are going to meet Monday evening.

It is not just you righteous O'festers who are toiling over your cars by the way.

This weekend is the Historic Automobile races at Laguna Seca and the Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach. I spent well over 2 hours on Sunday cleaning up my buggy. (At stake are the primo parking spots at Laguna Seca reserved for the coolest cars) (mine). Unfortunately, at Pebble Beach, there does not appear to be a category for cars worth less than $5000, so no effort there.

The true fanatics are those attending the Festorics weekend AND O'fest. It is interesting to browse the respective attendee lists.

No ... took them so consistently that they're now 'expert'.

That could not be possible. There would be nothing left to do after 10 seconds.

30 min -- Scrub 6 months of brake dust off of wheels
20 min -- Wash rest of car
10 min -- Chamois spa treatment
30 min -- Archologically excavation of back seat
    10 min -- Vacuum interior
30 min -- Baste vinyl with Vinylex
30 min -- Baste leather with Lexol
    20 min -- Windex windows

    = 3 hours
= Primo parking spot at Laguna Seca.

The Expert Classification is listed on the O'fest website on the Guidlines Page.
    See Below:

    2010_OfestCompetitionRulesGuidelines_v1.08.pdf
    Rules and Competition Guidelines
    pdf, 254,6K, 08/11/10, 23 downloads

Go to the Concourse Rules on page 9.
You will see the following explaination listed there under General Rule #9.

    9. Registrants, whose cars have placed first in any class during the past five years, may enter these same cars only in, EXPERT CONCOURS, EXPERT - SUPER CLEAN or EXPERT - CLEAN

Good Luck. Get those Q-tips ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So is there a need for participants to be there for a meeting Monday or is it just the judges meeting. I'm not planning on being there until Tuesday morning...
