Hi, all. I have an '88 E24, cinnabar red and want to replace the black strips on the bumpers. Not the actual molding on the quarter panels, but on the bumper. I am the 3rd owner and it looks like someone has tried to do it before. It looks like thick electrical tape, but I'm sure that's not it. Does anyone have any idea where I can get replacement tape. I didn't see any at Bavarian Autosport. Thanks.

It is nowhere near tape. It is supposed to be a heavy rubber molding held on by a series of clips. Here's the relevant part of RealOEM's parts list.

    02 Rubber strip, bumper front left 1 06/1987 51111967373 $61.12
    02 Rubber strip, bumper front right 1 06/1987 51111967374 $61.12
    03 Fastener ? 06/1987 51111829684 $5.37
    04 Hex nut M6-Z2 ? 06/1987 51451868108 $0.50

You should be able to get them through your dealer. I'd dismount the bumper to install them. It's just a couple of bolts in the shock absorbers under the hood. Remove the whole assembly instead of unbolting them from the bumper (You can't get to the nuts inside the bumper without removing the airdam otherwise.).

Thanks. I'll give that a try. Appreciate the help.
