Different in-store vs. internet parts pricing?

    Hi all,

I recently purchased a set of Style 135 wheels from the local dealer at a certain price. Then I happened to browse the accessories for my car on bmwusa.com and noticed that the price for the same wheels from the same dealer was about $200 less per! The part numbers were different, but they agreed with me they are for the same type and size wheel, so they adjusted the price.

Is this apparent double pricing common? And if so, why?

    Regards

Some dealers run an independent Internet operation per se and lower their prices to be competitive for mail-order sales. They don't expect most walk-in traffic to be Internet shoppers so they tend to charge closer to retail prices.
