Hi. Just joined BMWCCA this morning. Looking forward to browsing the site and see/share pictures and attend some events. I bought an '89 325i in the summer of '07 and cleaned it up, got it painted and put on some new rubber. Great car to drive both in errands and highway. I will post pictures this weekend. Just saying hello.
thanks! Here it is when it 'came home' It had been sitting under a tree for some time: ...and the previous owner apparently likes to spill coffee while she drove: The sophisticated work bench used during the timing belt (and associated parts) swap: Just before it got taken away for paint:
Very nice! I really like those bumpers, body color and tucked right in close! Is that what they call euro bumpers? Very crisp and clean! Once my car is paid off, and daughters tuition, I really want an E30!
'89's on in the U.S. had 3 mph bumpers, (as pictured), although I think they were the same for the rest of the world. '89 would have been the last year for no steering wheel airbag, I think those were required for '90 on. Remember those awful automated 'mousetrack' belts that moved in the track around the door? Ugh! Thankfully BMW didn't do that!
Those are the desired plastic bumpers that came on cars 89 on. The diving boards I'm guessing you're used to are the ugly 5mph bumpers that the US required at the time, and the laws changed. In 88 there were still diving boards but were a bit shorter, and the design allowed a direct fit of the plastic bumpers, where 87 and below cars could not have a direct bolt-on plastic bumper conversion (at least not on the rear). Nico, Beautiful car! I wish I had your bumpers.
edited! I just edited the thread with some pictures. I thought I was not looking in the right spot to try and edit threads when I initially posted, but I guess my sooper-dooper-nooble status has gone and I can now edit threads. So, that's what i did: I threw in some more pictures to show the beginning...back in August of '07. Thanks for the warm welcome. I am in Ronkonkoma, Long Island and I am using the car everyday rain, snow or shine.
I'd love to have an e 30. I think your year is my favorite. I like the bumpers and the steering wheel. You've done a great job with this car!
