Rear Window 2001 M5

My portable basket ball hoop fell over in a windstorm and smashed my rear window. My glass shop proposes a PPG replacement as opposed to a BMW window. The latter is $200. more. Is the PPG replacement a problem for any reason? Thanks, Jim Hawkins

I've heard of numerous problems fitting aftermarket glass (wrong contours, thinner glass), while some have no problems. A new BMW gasket should be used, if applicable. I have no deductible on glass incidents. I'd go with original. Check your local dealers for pricing. I've found original replacement windshields for my 2002 for less than aftermarket prices quoted by my insurance company - they loved me!

The PPG glass seems to be OK from the couple that I have seen.

A local club member is parting a 2003 M5, and I think he has that window available. Let me know if you want to inquire about it.
