I have a 2008 550i which has worked perfectly with my iPhone over bluetooth for handsfree dialing from my contact list. I recently upgraded to v2.0 iPhone software and now find that the contacts need to be handsfree dialed by saying "call lastname - firstname" (i.e., call Smith John). I've tried changing the sort and display options on the iPhone but nothing corrects this problem. BMWNA Customer Service says this is an "unsupported phone" and offers no further information. Given Apple is aggressively upgrading all 6 million iPhones to this new version of software, and that the iPhone 3G ships with it, this seems to be a bigger problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Thx.
I upgraded an original iPhone, tested it in a CCC environment, and did not encounter this problems. However, other and different incompatibilities have surfaced so let's see what anyone else has to say. Since the original iPhone is listed by BMW as compatible, I am surprised you got this reply from customer service. BMW trumpeted its support of the phone. The fact that the software has been upgraded (which does indeed change the phone) does not change the fact that it was originally deemed fully compatible.
I did change one thing, which was to sync the contacts over the air using Exchange Active Sync, rather than to the Outlook client on my desktop through iTunes. However, my other Outlook clients have been sync'ed to the same Exchange server without any problems. Is there a reference document somewhere which shows what data fields the BMW imports from/to?
I would try reverting and see if that helps. No but the name arrives however the mobile sends it as one field, not separate fields (i.e. ,,Johann Strauss Arbeit`` versus ,,Johann Strauss Mobile`` versus ,,Johann Strauss Privat``.
