Wine Tour

Save the date, Sunday, October 5, 2014, 2:30 PM. Our destination, Clauren Ridge Vineyard and Winery, 6000 Waterloo Rd, Edmond Ok (just East of May Avenue). Cost for the tasting is $6, but it is free with a wine purchase ($14-15 a bottle). “Patio Plate” items such as Angus Beef and Cheese Sliders, or Chicken and Mushroom Crepes, will also be available for purchase. Easiest access for those not familiar with the area, is from the Kilpatrick Turnpike North on Hefner Parkway/HiWay 74 to Waterloo Road, and then East to the Winery. We will start with a tour of the winery at 2:30, so arrive early to get parked, look over the other cars, and come inside. Weather permitting, we will have a sit down tasting in the vineyard, which should be beautiful at that time of year, but dress appropriately to be outdoors. Otherwise we will be in the Wine Cave, so we will have the event rain or shine. If you don’t think you like wine, maybe you just haven’t tried the right one yet. Visiting a winery is not only a fun way to learn about wine, but also supports a local small business. Many of our wineries are closing, including Tidal School where we held the tour last year. Others have closed their tasting rooms. Very restrictive state laws on sales are often stated as the reason. About the only “break” wineries get is that they can sell wine on Sunday, and we are giving Sunday a try in hopes some folks who haven’t been able to attend on Saturdays have an opportunity to attend. This seems to be an event where we get many first time attendees at a chapter event, so it’s an excellent opportunity for new folks to come out and get acquainted with fellow club members. There will be plenty of time to get acquainted. We should be finished around 4:30. As always, we encourage you to work out a designated driver before the event.
