Gathering of the Heritage

July 25, 2015
Hello fellow club members! Summer is in full swing, and there's only a couple weeks until our 35th Annual BMW Gathering of the Heritage! There's still time to pre-register your car for the big event. This year the Gathering of the Heritage is an entire weekend event! Saturday, July 25 we will host our exclusive Concours d’Elegance event, followed by a more casual display event on Sunday, July 26. Early registration for the 2015 Gathering of the Heritage Concours is only $20 per car, and day-of-registration will be $80 per car. To register your car to be judged, please go to our Motorsportsreg.com event page. Online registration will close at the end-of-day on Wednesday, July 22nd. Sunday we’ll be joined by the Mercedes, Audi and Porsche clubs for the casual Deutsch Marque Show und Shine. • Concours d’Elegance Event • The judged Concours d’Elegance will be Saturday, July 25th, 2015 at the Sculpture Park on Mercer Island. Here is the schedule for the day: 9:00 a.m.—Begin check-in and parking, day-of-event registration opens; 10:00 a.m.—Day-of-event registration closes. All judged BMWs are checked in; 11:00 a.m.—Hands off all judged BMWs. Judging begins; 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.—Food truck opens for service; 2:00 p.m.—Awards ceremony with photography by Bouchez Photography; 3:00 p.m.—Driving tour begins (optional) • Classes: Judged classes will be aligned with the BMW CCA National standards. Awards will consist of 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all classes. Plus, a participation award for the Featured Car, plus vendor/sponsor awards (Best Preserved, etc.). There will not be a People’s Choice award at this event. Cars will be judged only on cleanliness and condition, not on originality. To participate in the judged classes you must be a member of the BMW CCA, BMW ACA or Canadian BMW CCBC. Cars are judged in three major areas: exterior, interior (including trunk) and engine bay. The underside of the car is not considered. A three-member team whose independent results are then totaled to determine a score for each judged entry. This process is designed to be as fair and objective as possible. For class competition there are bonus points for mileage, which evens out the competition for high versus low mileage cars. Taking the top BMW from each class, and lining them up for a final review by a three-judge team determines the Best in Show Award. Previous scores are not considered as the judges choose the cleanest, most dazzling BMW on the lawn.
