The ICON: 50 Years of 2002

May 18, 2018
You're invited to the world’s biggest birthday party for the legendary BMW 2002.You feel it in your bones…the 2002 is more than just a car. For many, it’s an obsession. It’s the BMW they fell in love with, the one that continues to inspire their passion for the brand. It’s the car that led a group of enthusiasts to create the BMW Car Club of America, now the largest single-marque car club in the world. And this year, the iconic little car is 50 years old. THE ICON: 50 Years of the 2002 will celebrate the car that changed everything, and raised the stakes for the sports car scene in North America. The exhibition will run through January 2019...but you've got the chance to see it all on OPENING DAY, May 18. Significant bragging rights are at stake! Twenty-six exceptional 2002s will be gathered to tell the story of the car, the cult, and the impact still being felt in the automotive scene today. You'll see the very best examples in the country, gathered into four groupings: Stock, Variants, Modified and Race. Three unique talks will be given by 02 celebs on Opening Day only: - Hack Mechanic Rob Siegel will tell the story of "Louie," and give his unique take on the 2002. - ICON Book researcher and author Jackie Jouret will tell the real story of the 2002's development...and it's not the story you've been led to believe all these years! - BMW-commissioned artist Adrian Valentin Mitu will talk about his tribute to the legendary Jochen Neerpasch, and will be creating BMW art on-site during the event. The Museum will be packed to the rafters with 2002-related art, memorabilia and rarities you've never seen before. Author Jackie Jouret has also done extensive research on the development of the 2002, and has discovered new information never before released. You’re guaranteed to learn and experience something new. And of course, ICON exhibition books, posters and merchandise will all be available to feed your unhealthy obsession. THE ICON: 50 Years of the 2002 is an exhibition not to be missed, generously presented to you by The Werk Shop, along with Modified Group Sponsor Yokohama Tire, Car Care Sponsor Griot's Garage, Bavarian Autosport, Classic BMW, CocoMats, and Odometer Gears.
