BMW 630csiA Survivor

1977 BMW 630csiA, #5510277 built 3/77, owned by one family until 2015. Purchased in 2017 by lifelong BMW enthusiast (me) and nine-year BMW CCA member. 198,500 miles. Reseda Green Metallic over black leather. 3.0 liter M30 inline-six cylinder engine mated to ZF 3hp22 3-speed automatic gearbox. Wheels are optional BMW BBS/Mahle 14” basketweave alloys with 195/70-14 rubber. This is an uncommon example of the earliest E12 based 6-series of which there were only 866 built with automatic transmissions. It is a stock, unmodified survivor car in decent mechanical and cosmetic condition with complete trim and details intact. The interior of the car has well preserved door panels, details, rear seats and redone front seat upholstery. The BBS/Mahle wheels were period options and had black weave centers when I purchased the car. I bought this car from an extended family member in September 2017 to bring back to a condition in which I could drive it anywhere. Since then, I have completed a number of small projects on the car and it runs and drives fine, though it does not pass smog. Because of this, and the attention it needs to remedy, I am selling it so that I can spend time with my two young kids and clear a garage spot for other non-automotive projects. My plan was to get it registered and just drive it as a mechanically sound car. Having restored a ’72 2002 in the past number of years, I no longer have the stomach or time for a bare-metal restoration with family and work commitments. My hope is that a restoration/preservation minded enthusiast will enjoy this car. Vehicle History: This car was purchased new at Roy Carver Rolls-Royce BMW in Newport Beach, CA and lived in Fullerton for a few years before the family relocated to the Lompoc, CA area where it remained until 2015. The 630 was passed on to the original owner’s son in the early 2000’s, who had it repainted in the original Reseda Green in 2003 and replaced the shocks, front suspension bushings and a number of other items. It was acquired by extended family in 2015, driven a short while and parked until I purchased it in September 2017. I have records dating back to 2003 and BMW dealer stamps in the service manual from the car's early life. With the car in my possession, I set to work on a number of items: Replaced all rubber brake lines Replaced front brake pads Replaced fuel pump and filter Repaired headlight and horn electrical issue (Bavarian Autotechs) Overhauled driveshaft (Bavarian Autotechs) BBS wheels refinished In addition to that, I spent a great deal of time scrubbing, polishing and cleaning. Known repair history: Front seat upholstery (unknown, but replaced with OEM style leather) Paint (2003) Shocks-Monroe Sensatrak (2003) Radiator (2015) Expansion tank (2015) HVAC blower motor (2015) Brake lines (2018) Front brake pads (2018) Fuel pump & filter (2018) Fuel lines (rear) (2018) Driveshaft overhaul (2018) Headlamps and turn indicator work (2018) Wheel refinishing (2018) I have the factory service manual. The good: Gorgeous Paul Bracq body design in earliest form with excellent color Intact survivor car with unmolested trim Early E12 based 6-series car of which less than 900 (with automatic trans) were built. Very clean interior, with supple rear seat leather and integrated rear headrest pods Carpet is not faded, and in very good condition Clean engine bay Door panels and front seats in almost new condition Original, blue 6-digit CA plates Drives nicely, an easy cruiser of a 6 Transmission performs smoothly Analog clock works perfectly The bad: Will not pass smog currently-registered and insured as a non-operational vehicle Rust through on passenger side front floorpan Rust bubbles in a few areas on the lower body Rear muffler is not correct (I am currently looking for this item) Rear subframe and suspension bushings could be refreshed Right rear window motor/regulator frozen and inoperative (window is closed) Tires hold air, have 90% tread, but are 2003 date-coded Please contact me through email, I can show the car Mondays, evenings and weekends. Car is located in Fullerton, CA. Additional photos@ Asking price is negotiable. For questions, please call Brendan @714-267-4491 or Thank you for your interest.
