I am trying to find a code scanner/reset tool for my 1986 325es. I found code scanners & reset tools on bavauto & pelicanparts but they all say that the code scanner part works with e30's from 1987+. Is there anyway to scan for codes on an 86? Also for a while I was just able to use a wire to reset the oil/service light but now I can't clear either anymore, which is why I want to see what codes/problems my car could be experiencing.
You can't scan codes on your car - it gives you none. If resetting the oil service or inspection lights doesn't work you probably need to replace the batteries on the Service Interval Light circuit board, or replace the entire board. you can search for DIYs on this at r3vlimited or e30tech. http://programainc.com/categories.aspx?idcategory=1424
