First sold by Century BMW in Greenville this car spent the next 21 years nearby. The original owner sold it in 2011 first to a dealer and then to a BMW enthusiast. I bought it from him in November 2011. The car comes with all - ALL - service records since new.
A base model with crank sunroof, automatic, and cloth interior, I had a 5-speed installed along with new clutch, lightened Turner flywheel, 3.73 Limited slip, rebuilt driveshaft, Z3/1.9 shifter with ZHP knob. Next came updates to the cooling system, timing belt, all hoses and belts, along with suspension bushings. New Bilsteins and H&R Sport springs were installed. Next came a set of 4 15-inch Euroweaves with new Kumho AS 205/55-15s. The original spare has never been down.
The drivers seat was replaced with one from a convertible which was recovered in period Recaro fabric. The original is included, of course. Modern Kenwood stereo with Z3 antenna, one-touch drivers power window. I doubt that the back seat has ever been used.
So what's the problem? The clear coat is breaking down. The paint itself looks fine, I've not seen even a speck of rust, and there are just a few minor dings.
My goal was to make it into a daily driver. And that's exactly what it is. Simple. Reliable. And, yes, Fun too.
I realize that I can never get out the $$ I put in so ... my pain is definitely your gain.
